The mayor thought a block party might spur plenty of ideas about what they'd like to do with it. He even arranged for a picnic, tubs of ice and soft drinks, a weiner wagon, popcorn stand, and even a tortilla vender from the city. ![]() As Janie gazed out the window, her cat Bingo ran gently across her feet, over and over. He wanted to go with them. At last they were ready to go. The Carlson twins were ahead of them. They always played their own private games. Today's seemed to be a shouting contest with Dina and Dana vying to see who could yell "OW" the loudest. Silly girls, thought Janie. ![]() The little park was very festive. As the younger kids were playing, older ones were waiting to give their suggestions for the park. Mrs. Whipple was ready to take notes. She was excited and wiped her brow now and then even though it was a cool day. ![]() Janie was proud when her Mom offered to decorate some trash cans to help in keeping the park clean. Others wanted to plant flower beds, build picnic tables, a basketball goal, and swings. When a bluebird started singing in a nearby bush, Janie suggested birdhouses.
