The Enchanted Woods
The Unicorn Show

Hope was sleeping in her cave. Then a bird called Blueberry chirped and woke Hope up. The unicorn stretched and said to herself," I have a good idea. I hope all my friends are at home." Hope meant her unicorn friends, not Mistie or Sugar. Of course, Mistie and Sugar were her best friends, but Hope did have others.

After eating a meal of grass and dipping her golden horn into a pail of horn powder, Hope went to visit her unicorn friends. First she visited Faith's cave. Faith was a cheerful unicorn with light red mane and tail. "Hello Hope," she said. "I haven't seen you for a while." "I have a good idea," Hope said. "Come to the Fountain of Luck in an hour." Faith nodded and Hope galloped away.

Next, Hope visited Honor and Peace. They were sisters. Honor was quiet and Peace was always hyper. They both had mint green manes and tails. "Hi Hope!" Peace said. She trotted in little circles. Honor nodded a greeting. "Hi," Hope said. "Listen, I have a good idea. Could you please meet me at the Fountain of Luck in about an hour." Honor nodded and Peace cried," Sure! What's the idea?" Hope laughed. "You'll find out at the Fountain of Luck," she promised.

Thirdly, she went to Charity's cave. Charity was a young unicorn, only two years old, and she was timid. "Hello," Hope said. Charity smiled at her and said," Hello, Hope. How are you?" "I'm fine," Hope said. "In fact, I had a pretty good idea this morning. Would you meet me at the Fountain of Luck in half an hour?" Charity nodded and commentedm," I bet you're idea is good." She went inside her cave, swishing her golden tail.

Then Hope went to Destiny's cave. To her surprise and delight, Grace was visiting Destiny. "Hi!" they chorused. Hope grinned at them and said," Hello. I had a great idea this morning and I was wondering if you two could meet me at the Fountain of Luck in ten minutes." Destiny and Grace looked at each other and then Destiny said," Okay. We'll be there."

Hope, tired out, trotted back to the Fountain of Luck and waited. After twenty minutes, Faith, Destiny, Grace, Honor, Peace, and Charity were all there. "I have a good idea," Hope said. "My idea is that we unicorns put on a play." All of the unicorns smiled and Destiny asked," What would the play be about?" Hope thought for a minute and then said slowly," How about an evil unicorn magician who hates other unicorns? He could kidnap the unicorn princess and then one of her friends tells the queen and they have a search party. Then they find him and kill him and rescue the princess. How's that?" There were neighs of approval. "Who would play what part?" Grace asked. "And who should decide?" "I think Hope should decide," Charity said. "She's fair and this was her idea." There were more neighs of approval.

Hope smiled at Charity. "Destiny is the biggest unicorn, and he's the only male," Hope said. "He should be the magician. Charity can be the princess, she's so little and cute. Honor, you're the queen. If it's all right with everybody, I'd like to be Charity's friend. Then Faith, Grace, and Peace can be the search party. Is that all right?" Everybody cheered. "Let's practice!" Peace cried.

For the next few days, the unicorns practiced a lot. Sometimes Sugar, Mistie, and Flutter watched. They liked it. When the unicorns were ready to give their show, Sugar found Trust, the town announcer, and told him what to announce. Trust galloped away.

That day, the unicorns gave their show. Destiny wore a cape made out of sewn grass. Honor and Charity wore seashell crowns. The unicorns gave their play wonderfully! They acted very well, and even Charity forgot her shyness as she screamed when Destiny captured her. At , everybody cheered and Sorceress Marigold made a small announcement. "You unicorns did very well," she said. "We enjoyed your performance tremendously! Thank you!" There was more cheering. Hope felt proud, especially when Sugar gave her a bouquet of flowers. All of the unicorns enjoyed acting and they all hoped that one day they could put on another show.
