The Great Escape

"What are we going to do?" Hope asked as the friends walked beside the troll. "That's a good question," Mistie replied. "But whatever we're going to do, we'd better do it quickly or else we'll be food!" The troll glanced over at them. "Shut up!" he growled. They walked in silence and then Sugar said," I've learned about different kinds of magic and one of them was troll magic. He's concentrating his magic on us not getting away. If he was distracted enough, we might be able to escape." "How are we going to distract him?" Mistie asked. "I don't know," Sugar answered. "At least we have a plan," Hope said. They finally arrived at a cave. There was a huge stone pot outside. The troll kept them in his sight as he started to make a fire under the pot. "What if we put out the fire and then used our magic to keep him from lighting another one?" Hope suggested. "That would keep him busy and then maybe we could get away." "Let's try it," Sugar said. She started to stare at the pot while making signs with her wand. Suddenly the fire went out and the troll groaned. Sugar continued to stare at it while the troll tried to light another fire. Finally she stopped. "That should do it for a while," she said. "Now we just have to wait." The troll tried a few more times to light the fire and then he ran out of matches. "Darn!" he said in disgust. He went into the cave. Suddenly Hope could feel something let up around her. "I think it's safe," she whispered. "Let's go!" Sugar flew to the nearest tree and hid in its branches. Mistie floated behind a bush. Hope ran quietly into the woods and hid as best as she could. Hardly daring to breathe, she waited. The troll came back out of the cave with more matches in his hand. He looked around and didn't see his lunch. Stamping his foot, he shouted," Come out! I will find you!" Nothing happened. Moaning, he turned around and stomped back inside his cave. "Good," Mistie said. "He's gone. Let's go home now!" So they found their way back and made sure never to go near a troll again.
